Eat healthily when you’re travelling is easier than you think
To travel is fun but deciding what to eat on your much-anticipated trip is a challenging task. Many people prefer consuming comfort food while travelling and of course that’s not a wise decision. Balanced and nutritious diet is something you cannot take granted for especially when you’re out and need extra energy. Let me share some of the useful tips that I personally follow while travelling.
Instead of relying on fast food joints and restaurants only, it would be great to pack some healthy snacks for you ahead of travelling. Nuts, seeds, fresh fruits, vegetables, and dry fruits are just to name a few.
While ordering at restaurants, make sure to order small-sized portions or you can also share your meal with your partner. A big NO to ‘All you can eat’ choices of course!
Look for the options that come with lots of veggies and salads on the side. This way you can have a balanced diet. Ask to have creamy dressings and sauces on the side, so that you can control how much you consume.
Avoid bacon and extra fat stuffing in your sandwiches. Ask if an eatery could replace these things with salad leaves, pineapple or avocados for freshness and taste.
Similarly, never opt for deep fried options. You can always ask for baked, poached, broiled or grilled alternatives instead.
I know indulging in a hearty dessert is a must. Eating healthy doesn’t necessarily mean you cannot enjoy a dessert once in a while. However, look out for options with a low-fat calorie count like frozen yoghurt, fresh fruit sorbets and the like. Last but not the least, drink plenty of water to keep you hydrated.
